MOBILE GRADUATES: A Drop-out Prevention Summit
February 3, 2009
Arthur Outlaw Mobile Convention Center
In order to meet the needs of both existing and new industry, the workforce must meet rigorous and
relevent standards and be recruited from all sources, but especially from local high school graduates.
On February 3, 2009, the Mobile Graduates: A Drop-out Prevention Summit was held at the Arthur Outlaw Mobile Convention Center. Over 600 concerned citizens from Mobile and around the state learned first hand of the collaborative efforts of Mayor Sam Jones, City of Mobile; Carolyn Akers, Executive Director, Mobile Area Education Foundation; and Dr. Roy Nichols, Superintendent of Mobile County Public Schools, to design and implement aggressive strategies to decrease the drop-out rate, increase the rigor of course offerings and reform secondary schools system wide. These initiatives are being led by the Research Alliance for Multiple Pathways (RAMP) for Mobile's Youth Taskforce and in partnership with national experts.
We invite you to connect and commit yourself to the goal of "Fulfilling the Graduation Promise".
