The Academy for Excellence in Mathematics Education’s leadership program for administrators centers around the Lenses on Learning course developed by the Education Development Center in Boston, MA. In this course school and district administrators explore new ideas about the nature of mathematics and about the learning, teaching, and assessment of mathematics. Lenses on Learning gives administrators the opportunity to reflect with colleagues on the meaning of change in math education and to consider the implications for their work. The course involves 30 hours of professional development and can be configured in a variety of formats for implementation.
School systems interested in offering the Lenses on Learning course as part of its administrators’ professional development offerings should contact the Mobile Area Education Foundation at 251-476-0002 and ask for Dr. Susan Pruet (spruet@maef.net).
