Engaging Youth Through Engineering (EYE) Summer Day Camp

(EYE is a K-12 workforce and economic development initiative of the Mobile Area Education Foundation in collaboration with the J. L. Bedsole Foundation, the Mobile County Public School System, the University of South Alabama and area business and industry. This summer’s EYE Camps are funded by the J. L. Bedsole Foundation, Shell Oil, Northrop-Grumman and a Gulf of Mexico Alliance grant through the Dauphin Island Sea Lab.)

2011 SUMMER CAMP INFORMATION

The Mobile Area Education Foundation is offering four week-long day camps for exiting 4th and 5th grade students in the Engaging Youth through Engineering (EYE) elementary schools: Castlen, Chickasaw, Clark, Collier, Council, Davis, Dickson, Dodge, Fonde, Griggs, Hall, Holloway, Kate Shepard, Maryvale, Meadowlake, and Westlawn. The camps will take place at selected EYE school sites and will be led by teachers from the EYE elementary and middle schools and the Davidson HS EPIC program.

During the camp, students will experience environmental engineering through hands-on, creative investigations and building activities. The goal of each camp is to show students what engineering is all about and to expose them to the fact that "engineers' work" is all around them. The week culminates with an end-of-camp celebration at the Five Rivers Delta Education Center that parents, educators, and business leaders are invited to attend.

Transportation will be provided from the school for field trips to the Dauphin Island Sea Lab, Mobile Area Water Works System, and the Five Rivers Delta Education Center. Campers pay a $75 registration fee, are required to bring their own lunch each day and are provided an EYE camp t-shirt and daily snacks in addition to the camp program.
